My gym is actually a nice gym and there are national body builders that go there but I always see non-fit/fat people in there all the time but it is good that they're in there. Not too many people go to the gym to judge others...you usually are going to the gym because you are judging yourself...
As for exercises. I would stay with cardio to lose weight because unless you plan to put on some serious muscle in the gym you will not gain that much weight that fast at home...
Before I answer this question, I am going to comment on the poor grammar that everyone has on this board. It's poor.
Anyways,
1. STOP DRINKING SODA. This includes diet soda. Drink tea, 100% fruit juice (in moderation), milk (skim), and a lot of WATER. Don't like it? Get use to it.
2. Whoever said don't eat after 5, doesn't know what he is talking about. Also, EATING BREAKFAST IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT. This leads to #3.
3. Eat less, more often. Instead of eating 3 large meals a day, eat 5 smaller meals spread out through the day.
4. STOP EATING FAST FOOD. Go to Subways if you are out and hungry. Don't give me that crap about how it’s expensive, you don't need a footlong sandwich, no one does.
5. Start a cardio routine. Start small, jog for 10 minutes 3 days a week. Then add 5 minutes a week. If you’re in better or worse shape, you can always modify that routine. Eventually, start adding days until your running at least 5 days a week. Don't have time? Make time, wake up an hour earlier. Jogging is going to do more for your six pack abs, than any weightlifting will ever do.
6. Realize that you might not be genetically chosen to be able to have a six pack. Some people just can't get them.
7. Legs: Box Squats, Lunges, Calf Raises.
These can all be done without weights, and I promise you, that if you’re not in shape, your legs will hurt like hell afterwards. Not damaging unless your form sucks.
DO NOT IGNORE YOUR LEGS!!! I see so many dumb frat kids at the rec center at my school that only do upper body. If you want the Joe Swanson look, go for it.
(Joe Swanson is Peter's neighbor on the Family Guy if you didn't catch that reference) Do legs twice a week.
8. Upper body: Push-ups (there are about 30 different types of pushups that you can do that isolate different muscles), dips, chin ups, pull ups. Do a different assortment of these given your fitness level about 4 days a week.
9. Abs: there are so many ab workouts you can do at home; I will only list a few.
a. Get yourself an ab ball (they are not just for girls, go do Pilates for an hour and see how good it feels).
b. Sit-ups
c. Breathing exercises
10. Suck up your freaking pride and go to the gym. Also, I recommend Hooked-on-Phonics, or the Sylvian Learning Center.
11. Also, lose your ego, it's annoying.
