Pack everything carefully. Wrapping glass objects in newspaper etc. Movers all seem to be ex-football players or luggage handlers at the airport. There is an old saying 3 moves equals a fire.
Number and mark all your boxes as to what's in them or at least what room they need to go in. The first will help you keep track if one doesn't show up at the new house like #21 of 40.
You'll have to notify the utility company to close your accounts. Advise your credit card company, and any loan companies you have of the new address. You have to remember to fill out a Change of Address form with the Post Office a week or so before you go. This will ensure your mail gets to you, but they don't notify anyone of the change of address, you have to do that.
I'd carry all important papers and documents with you (Passport, loan and insurance papers, birth certificate, etc.)
If you use them, you'll need new checks. Don't forget stuff in your bank box if you have one.
At some point you will need to get a new Driver's License and License Plates for you car. All states give you some sort of grace period. You can check on the cost of the plates before you go so it won't be a shock or hopefully a pleasure when you see what they cost.
Good luck on the move. Planning ahead is excellent.

Anyone here have advice for moving out of state?
I'm only moving up one state (CA to OR), but this is my very first move, and I was wondering if anyone here has advice. I won't be moving for about 5 months, but I'm collecting as much information as possible before it's time.
I'm going to use a self...
packing moving service, so that's covered, and I'm saving money like crazy.
