How to hint that i'd like an anniversary present?

I made this amazing scrapbook this whole year for my boyfriend and I anniversary and he is going to be blown away by it. Its a surprise and I cant wait to give it to him. But the thing is ..he didnt get me a birthday present last may and I understand...

because he didnt have money. But I would have thought he would be saving money now to get me a present for our anniversary and he gets a few bucks now and then but he spends it on stupid things like food instead of saving it to buy me somehting nice. Im not trying to be greedy or rude or foward or anythning. But the fact it ..if I give him this book...and he doesnt get me anything...he will feel awful and I will honestly feel hurt..and he keeps saying im gunna get a job but now his parents are asking him to get one and hes getting stressed about it..what should I say to hint him that im expecting somehting from him? Its an important day for both of us.

What I did was I told him I made you something for our anniversary I think you'll love it so he knew I had something for him so I think it pushed him to get something for me. I cant see him knowing you have something for him and him not getting anything for you. Theres nothing wrong with him knowing you made him something - just don't tell him what it is.

lol yeah yesterday I was like..hey so I cant wait for our anniversary and he was like yeah me too and I was like...sooo omg I cant wait to give you my gift YOUR GUNNA LOVE IT! andd he looked at me for like 5 seconds and was like ..I cant wait to give you mine either.. and I was like awww you got it for me already?? and he was like...well its in the making.
