Hello im thirteen and this might sound weird but I think I might have add. I have trouble paying attention in and class and staying out of trouble, except for the classes I really like. I really want to be good in class and make my parents proud even though I really hate them at the moment. also I am very forgetful and I constantly leave things at places and lose things things, like this saxophone I left on a bus and cant find. And by the way saxophones cost 2 grand!!! Carelessness, forgetfullness and me not concentrating in class all seem to be the symptoms I saw on this site!!! Do I have add? If I do what can I do for it!? And even if I dont have it what can I do to help my life that seems to be falling apart around me!!!???

Hey,
I have ADD myself, and I can see why you believe that you do. Have you been experiencing this for long? I'm not sure entirely, but the way I found out that I had it was to go to the doctor, as my parents suspected I had it when I was 6, passed down from my dads side. So it might be good to see a doctor. I am 14 now, and stopped taking medication last year. I have been coping well with both my schoolwork and social life.

However, a lot of people have this problem around your age, and many of them do not have ADD. It might just be stress, or even something simple like organisational problems.

Here are some symptoms, if you are noticing them in yourself you should speak to your doctor:
* Often fails to give close attention to details.
* Often makes careless mistakes in schoolwork, work, or other activities.
* Often has difficulty sustaining attention in tasks or play activities.
* Often becomes easily distracted by irrelevant sights, sounds and extraneous stimuli.
* Often does not follow through on instructions and fails to finish schoolwork, chores, or duties in the workplace.
* Often has difficulty organizing tasks and activities.
* Often avoids tasks, such as schoolwork or homework, that require sustained mental effort.
* Often loses things necessary for tasks or activities, like school assignments, pencils, books, or tools.
* Often is forgetful in daily activities.
* Rarely follows instructions carefully and completely.
* Often does not seem to listen when spoken to directly.

People with ADD symptoms of Attention Deficit Disorder who are inattentive display difficulty keeping their mind on any one thing. They may get bored easily with a task and bounce to the next task, and the next task after that. Organizing and completing a task proves troublesome, though they may give undivided and effortless attention to activities and topics they enjoy. People with ADD symptoms of Attention Deficit Disorder often find that focusing deliberate, conscious attention to learning something new is extremely difficult.

As a result, homework may be agonizing for people with the symptoms of ADD. They might forget to write down assignments or bring home the right books to complete the assignments. When doing homework, people with the symptoms of ADD typically find their minds drifting every few minutes.

I have ADHD. (truthfully I think the entire 90's generation does haha) but if your concerned about it go to your school guidance counselor and ask him or her about it. I know there is some sort of test a therapist can give you so your guidance counselor might be able to with your parents consent. and if you do, there are pills your parents can get for you that help you focus, but be warned the pills tend to change you. my bofriend has ADHD too and when he's on his pills he gets very very calm and not really like him self, just very very focused, but I love him still. I'm just warning ya. good luck!!
