Hi flossheal
Acne is definitely a disease which has social impact and it affects people emotionally at an age when they are least capable of dealing with it. Acne results from combination of many factors I.e. familial predisposition, excessive sebum secretion, abnormal composition of sebum, abnormal keratinization of skin and finally role of a bacterium (Propionibacterium acenes).
For sucsessful and effective treatment of acne you must do following:-
1. Seek advice from your doctor
2. Frequently wash your face with soap so as to keep it oil and dirt free. Try using soap/face wash with salicylic acid (Neutrogena). Keeping skin clean will keep pores open and excess dead cells will not block outflow of sebum. Although your skin might feel slightly dry and tight from washing but dont worry
3. You might need to take antibiotics for few months, or and some other medicines which your doctor will discuss with u (I cant name those on net)
4. PERSISTANCE IS THE KEY: Be estremly regular in washing and using medicine.
5. AVOID COSMETICS...they cause or aggravate acne.

My Christmas present to MYSELF is a pixel-fraxel treatment. A plastic surgeon uses lasers to resurface your skin, it looks younger and any acne scars or age spots are improved. It's $800 but that varies according to the city you live in and the doctor you trust. Research it!

I had a mild case of adult acne...I used por-active and it worked for a couple of weeks but then I broke out again. It got to the point where I went to the dermatologist and they told me to wash my face with Cetaphil...its over the counter facewash...and then she said to mosterize with Cetaphil mosterizer. She priscribe mean acne medicine, but now I dont even need to use it unless I get a pimple here or there. You can spot treat your zits with benzole. I will say it wont go away over night, but if you consistantly wash your face morning and night (not too much or you can irritate your skin) and mosterize, it will help. At least it did for me.

Also, Cetaphil is dermotologist approved. Its in a white bottle with a green cap...you can get it at CVS, Walgreens, or Walmart. Its usually toward the bottom of the fash wash istle...you'll find it! Good Luck!

I have washed my face with dial soap and then wiped it with a clean tissue soaked with isopropyl alcohol 70% since I was 14. never a blemish. I wear makeup, not a lot and do not use any lotion or face cream except under my eyes and only during the day. I wash every morning and night (right before bed) and then the alcohol. good luck.

Strong cleaners will actually make acne worse because they take so much oil out of your skin that your body automatically produces MORE oil, making it worse. What you need to do it buy a gentle cleanser and moisturize with a oil-free lotion.
