Is it ok to leave a 9-year-old home alone?

okay my friend has a stepson and they just found out that his momand grandmom leaves this 9yo alone all day while they are at work and her husband is to scared to do anything ... and to make things even more wierd is the boys mom married a flipping...

person who is and has been in jail for murder sence he was 14 and she takes the 9 yo boy up to the jail to visit this murderer...anyone have any suguestions to what she can do...

Dear mandastar,
I'm not too familiar with american laws but Canadian laws you are not allowed to leave a 9 year old home all day alone. From the ages...different ages in provences...but ages 10-12 are allowed alone for only a short period of time..lets say an hour or 2. From that point on it's not very clear but it depends on the child's maturity. I would call children's protective services in the case of a 9 year old being home all day alone. I can't imagine how someone would feel if a terrible thing happened to that child when they knew he was there alone. If you know he is there alone and they found out you knew and didn't report it you can be fined and pretty hefty amount.

this is not good! too many things can happen when a child is learning at this age. they like to explore and that can be dangerous.

No way !! That poor child, I find that appalling that he is being left home alone at such a young age, and why is the husband to scared to do anything?
It sounds like someone has to be told about this right away and the boys mother needs to sort out her priorities. Children come first ALWAYS !! and as far as the visiting the murdering husband in jail,thats really showing her son a good role model isnt it? NOT !!
For the childs sake,this has to be dealt with ASAP.

it's ILLEGAL to leave a 9 year old alone they have to be 12 to legally be home alone and he can get into something that is dangerous or he could start a fire or he could be killed
