How do I write good poetry?

I love writing but I really want to start writing poetry about feelings and emotions. I have no idea where to start because I’m not too good now.

The first place to start is to say goodbye to the words ‘I’m not too good now’ because those words and that mindset is what’s keeping you from writing. There are absolutely no boundaries about what you write about. Poetry doesn’t have to rhyme, have a rhythm, sound smart, or make sense. Poems can be 2 lines short (though they are mostly called quotes) or poems can be the size of a novel!!! Writing, to me, is a form of art. We use literature to paint pictures in people’s heads and for somebody to say to you that you are writing wrong, is like telling an artist that their painting is wrong. All you need is to sit down, and read some poems. Find some you like, read them out loud, clap some rhythms to the ones that have a beat. Find the rhymes, the assonance, the metaphors. Look for the repetition from line to line and try to work out what the poet is writing about. Ask your english teacher for some help if you are wanting somebody to talk to. I’m sure your teacher would be delighted to have a student that’s interested in more than the story you are reading in class. Best of luck.

Write your emotions on a certain subject, and make the paper live and touch others like they wouldn’t imagine ^_^

Answer #5

-Write like no one else will ever read it, whether or not that is true is irrelevant.

-Write from the heart, not the mind.
