Who has ever wondered why there was only 2 parties in the government?

Democrat vs Republican? I always wondered why there wasnt a party that had a combo of both…I think if there was it might have been so much better for the nation…what do you guys think?

Answer #1

I think you’d call that the libertarian party. They seem to be an odd mix of both. They just dont get very many votes

Answer #2

Well, like most things, it’s complicated. The Constitutional Convention had two main factions, the Federalists and their opponents, which sort of laid the groundwork for two parties in the nation’s politics at large. That two-faction, or two-party tradition stuck with the United States.

Also, the US electoral system favors having two major parties. Many of the laws are written in such a way that favor the fielding of Republican and Democratic candidates, while minor parties have a much harder time getting their names on the ballot and funding for their candidates.

The main thing that’s changed in US history has been who exactly the two major parties are (or who their supporters are) and what they support.

thanks, I am not really into politics that is why i asked i dislike both parties because i agree & disagree with both parties…that is why i was wondering because so many people agree with me…yet no one really decides to just go a separate way…enough with it being either democratic or republican…i see eye to eye on a few here & a few there…but nothing concrete enough to say ok, i will vote for that party or the other…it just doesnt meet my standards because either there is too much of one party or not enough of another party… they should really help fund other parties not just black or white, there are also shades of gray here & there sort of speak! (that wasnt a racial remark to those that assumed that right away…it was like a ying/yang kind of thing…sometimes there is something in between that might be much more appealing but if you dont try it you cant know it exists!)
