Can a woman be a firefighter?

I remember a long time ago i watched the rescueme tv show, and there were only firemen and they didnt like the idea of having a woman, because they say they would be weak in a fire. I think they are right, unless they get a big strong manly woman. What do you think?

Yes women can be firefighters. It is, however, a more male dominant career but that does not stop a qualified and fitting female from becoming one. More than often, in male-dominant careers women will lack some sort of respect from her male co-workers but can a woman have a career in such jobs? Hell yes.

Answer #2

Firefighting is a very physical job and requires a lot of stamina and upper body strength. Even men encounter difficulties while going through training, and have to build up their strength. Since women are naturally weaker then men, it’s not common for a woman to be fit for this kind of job, however, it’s not unheard of.

Answer #3

Anyone can be anything they want. Sure, it may be a male dominant career path but as a human, you have the right to do whatever you want whenever you want. Be that firefighter if that’s what you want!

Answer #4

Women can definitely be firefighters. I was a volunteer firefighter in my community from when I was 16, up until about the age of 21. As a woman I can tell you that it is physically demanding, but there are plenty of things women can do at a fire or accident scene just as well as a man can. Women aren’t all as weak and fragile as people make us out to sound. Are there more males than women? Sure. It’s not a definite “no” thing for a woman to do though. And if you have a good team (mine was absolutely fabulous), there’s no trouble with respect or any of that either.

Answer #5

Yes, women can be firefighters. Few are, but they exist. They just have to have to be strong women with good fitness.

There are many jobs where people of one gender are the majority, but there are very few jobs that actually require a certain gender.
