Why is my kitten not using the bathroom; she just eats the litter!?

PLEASE HELP! ITS URGENT!! … I just got a new kitten, hes a boy, and hes [about] 5 weeks old. he cant eat on his own so we feed him with an eye dropper [milk].. im VERY worried, because we’ve had him for 2 days and he still hasnt used the bathroom [pee or poop!] .. he hasnt done it in his litterbox or anywhere else. and on top of it, everytime we put him in the litterbox, he acts like hes starving and starts savagly eating the litter. yet, [we thought maybe he was hungry for kitty food- the mushy kind], we gave him whiskas soft food (the kind with meat peices and lots of juice), and he never even looked at it! … im really worried!! please help,!! why is he eating the litter? and why hasnt he used the bathroom yet? oh, and is he hungry?

by the way, he meows a lot and its really hard to feed him the milk, because he struggles to get away and he whines the whole time. Thank you for your advicee! any ideas will help!

the best thing I can come up with is take him to the vets, there the experts and they know what to do.

First of all, he most certainly CAN eat on his own at 5 weeks old. You just need to put warm water on the kitty kibble, so it can get soft…then offer it to him. He’s probably starving from getting fed with an eyedropper.

He is too young tho, to expect much in the way of knowing how, why or where the litter box is…(if mama cats are left on their own, they keep their kittens around for about 4 months…so this is a VERY little baby)…

Well, yes you should get him checked over by the vet to make sure he’s healthy and to get proper advice and taking care of a young kitten. ideally kittens should be left with their mother until they are 8 - 10 weeks old, as they learn a lot of their behaviour from their mother, and could still be feeding from them and groomed by them, the meowing could be that he’s been parted from his mother and still needs her. It’s so important for bonding and behaviour.

So, yeah, you really need to get good professional advice, go to the vets ask for leaflets, borrow a kitten book from the library.

In the meantime think about changing the litter, what type are you using? ask in the pet store for a non clumping litter. If he eats the litter when you put him in the box take him out again. And repeat until he learns not to eat it.

UPDATE: we are 7 hours away from the nearest vet, so bringing him to the vet isnt possible at the moment..also, when I rub him hindlegs [back legs] close to his, um, you know, he leaks pee. its weird, cuzz, its as if he doesnt know hes peeing.. and I tried wiping the pee then putting it in the litter box, [so he can smell his pee, hopefully to learn that thats where hes supposed to do his business], and it didnt work. he just jumps right back out of the litter box. its maddening. im so worried!! :(
