Why is business like this I'm only 17?
So I’m 17 and I just started to get into the car business BUT unlike most people my family has a background in this my dad at one point my dad was one of the top wholesale car dealers in Canada. (where I live) he worked from coast to coast to make life for the rest of the family very easy. But now I have started in the business and because of my last name every where I go people know me because of my last name and almost every conversation starts with “are you Lens son” (Len is my dads name). Right now I just fell like I have the world on my shoulders in this business, and what ever I do and what ever I look at I have to make a lot of money on. I’m only 17 and still in high school, the only reason I started so early is so I wouldn’t have to work at wal-mart like half of my friends and do something I can slowly build into a career. should I feel like this or do you think it is just really getting to me and I should forget about it and just continue with it?
It’s normal to feel like you’re being crushed when you start out in business :) Luckily (well, unluckily in many ways) my dad’s business didn’t survive past when I was 17, at least his previous one. He has a new one now, and I still help out as much as I can, I have my own businesses to run though and we have very different approaches to things.
If you’re 17, you should still finish school AND go to college (it’s a decent back up plan) while you work on the business…it’s a lot more work, but, you’ll be twice as far ahead of the folks you are competing with if you do so.
