What to do while babysitting a 4 year old boy

Hi everyone!

So, my mom lined up a babysitting job for me today for sometime this week, and I need some advice. Usually I babysit kids in like 2nd through 5th grade (mostly 3rd and 4th graders). When I asked my mom how old the kid was, she said 4 years old. I’m pretty good with kids, but I’ve never babysat someone that young. I’m scared I’m not going to know what to do with him and what to talk about or like what games to play. I really dont want it to be awkward. I dont really know what 4 year old boys are into.

Any advice on how to have fun with this kid for a few hours? Also, is there anything extra I should know and be prepared for before babysitting him? Thanks a bunch!!

I babysit all ages from about 4monthsish- 8 at the moment

4years olds arent terrible but most all ways have that one word that sometimes does your head in ‘ why ‘ evertytime lol

anyway.. like kelseymichelle said giving them high fives is a good iunstead of candy. playing with cars, colouring, painting, building, if your going out that day to the park or something a football would be good, or if he has a bike, scooter that kind of stuff, if you’ve got to feed him like lunch or something make sure you dont give him a lot of chocolate, sweet, crisps becuase he will become energetic for a while and hyperactive.

also like lucky025 sais dont forget, not to play the game for too long as they will start to moan and get bored.

hope I helped, goodluck

The other day I babysat a 5 year old, 3year old, and a one year old all boys, so I know a thing or two. Use high fives as a reward instead of candy or something he’ll probably be into things like building and cars. hot wheels might be a hit. ask the parents what he likes to do too, they might not let him play with certian things.

Answer #4

watch em like a hawk and do not keep your eyes off him the terrible 2s last 2 years.say that cause I fell down the stairs playing on them when I was 4 while I was being baby sat cause they were watching tv talking to their boyfriend on the phone

4 year olds are tough. I do have a small piece of advice to give tho, never do “one” activity for too long. Includes some coloring or finger painting. Also the cars and building things are a good idea too, try balloons and balls too.Television/Movies are a no-no unless it’s time to relax and settle down and the parents are like 10-15 mins away.

I want to know that where is candiland game which is old

Answer #7

I have a four year old boy at home and he loves to talk about superheros. He likes to play candi land and break the ice. Coloring will also work so about 15 min. 4 year olds are always on the go never can sit still and always wanting to jump around and play. Good luck honey and have lots of fun

Answer #8

Well, a 4 year old boy that I have to baby sit loves dinosaurs and star wars and trucks and cars and all that stuff. he gets bored easily so dont do something for more than 10 min.

Answer #9

Well, I babysit a little boy named Luke, who’s 4.

He is totally obsessed with Spiderman! Ask what superhero he likes and he will tell you about that superhero for hours. All he wants you to do is nod, say wow, or tell him that you are impressed by how much he knows. :)

King Julien 13’s list was totally accurate! Play with that stuff and you’ll be busy for the whole job :)

Good Luck everybody!

  1. hotwheels or toy monster trucks (have races, play make-believe games)
  2. build stuff and knock it down
  3. play “pirates” “castle” “cops” etc.
  4. hide-n-seek
  5. play outside (bikes, tricycles, go to the park, find out if the kid is interested in any certain sports and play that) TIP: most four-year-olds want you to play WITH them, not just find an activity for them to do.

I babysit a five-year-old boy and I’ll admit that sometimes it’s pretty awkward, you don’t really know what to talk about. Try asking about school, or talk about things you have in common that you both understand, like sports or animals. You could also just say “You wanna know something cool?” then tell them some random fact or something funny that happened to you.

what can I do im babysitting a 4 year old and a 12 year old!! Help pleasee

Answer #12

While I babysit this boy who’s name is Ayden and is 5 but this is also something that 4 year old’s to 1 year old boys will be interested in only because they are boys. Ayden loves star war’s so a lot of times he will supply us with all the activities we need. Wii games movies anything star war’s. Some boys can just talk about superheros for hours. If your babysitting a 4year old girl that’s a whole different story. I babysit a 4 year old named Hope and she loves flowers princesses and loves to draw them. If the child your babysitting dosn’t enjoy these things ask a parent or maybe even the kid. I like to go meet the kid and learn the parents ground rules a couple days early. That way you can get to know the kid what he or she likes.

Answer #13

you can let him play with legos and action figures. some 4 year olds are very naughty so be careful

Answer #14

I babysit a 5 year old boy and he loves these preschool things b/c I have a game called jumpstart and I have had it since I was 4.(I am 13)So pretty much everyday he comes over he asks to play it but now our computer isn’t working and now he plays with the tv but the one day he somehow got into the dvr and learned ho to watch another preschool show I don’t know what it is but he really enjoys it so I let him watch that all the time.So you should really find something or ask him what he likes and maybe you should get jumpstart for him and see if he likes it it is a really great program and it is cheap to buy!

Answer #15

When babysitting a 4-year-old, it is important to not take your eyes off them because they can get in to trouble at the drop of a hat. Also, they have short attention spans and can get bored with one activity quickly, so change up what you are playing with often.

Here is a list of things you can do with a 4-year-old boy:

  • cars
  • ride a bike
  • Candy Land or other age appropriate game
  • cops and robbers
  • hide and seek
  • tag
  • play catch or kick the ball
  • color
  • puzzles
  • superheros
