What should I wash my newborn kitens with?
I read in an article an antibacterial but I also heard that it can cause health problems when they lick themselves dry… I know I cant use flea shampoos or other cat shampoo they are too young What do you suggest thankyou
Frontline has a spray in a bottle that you mist over the kittens and mom. It is safe for mother and kittens. BUT check with you Vet first!
PLEASE check with your vet before doing anything though. The reason I say this is cats lick more than dogs and it is so easy to poison a cat.
I agree with Stephanief987. The mother may not even take care of the kittens anymore if you touch them too much. They dont need baths, they will be just fine, the mother will clean them herself. That’s just how they do it.
Shampooing them may make the mother reject them due to their smell. No need to shampoo them anyway, the Mom licks them clean. She will eat and drink their urine and feces as well, to keep her nesting area clean. Once again, something to research before you breed.
I guess I don’t know why you want to bath kittens, unless they have fleas…in that case…because both puppies and kittens don’t have the body mass to handle commercially prepared flea soaps and shampoos…
Dawn detergent…diluted with water will knock the adult fleas, but not the eggs…Wash all bedding, spray it, and hang outside to air out for a few hours…even better if the sun is shining…
If you’re want to wash them because you think they are dirty…well, just wait until they are old enough to handle it.

I personally haven’t heard of anyone bathing kittens on a normal basis…momma cat takes care of her babies…although some stores do sell kitten shampoo, newborns should not be bathed unless of infestation of fleas…then I can c giving a bath, but only with something very mild for kittens…there is a oatmeal shampoo that is for puppies…I don’t know if that can be used for kittens too or not. dichihuahua
Wait till they grow up more. Cats/Kittens don’t even need baths! Dogs do. Indoor cats defintally don’t need baths unless it’s covered in some type of stuff!
I wash my cat regularly, but not until she was like 6 months old… The kittens will be cleaned by their mother, you dont want to be changing their scent… In a couple of months you can go to the pet store, there are wipes you can buy… Once they’re old enough to be washed, there’s pet shampoo (my cat’s hair falls out with them, so I use baby shampoo…)
You should only use warm water to sponge bathe the kittens, no soap products until they are at least 3 weeks old and you should wash them very minimally so that they do not get chilled, the mama cat does a great job of cleaning the kittens on her own!!
ALSo at like any pet store theres shampoo there! you could ask people who work there and they will tell you something!!
Don’t wash them till they are older unless you want the mother hating you lol
