What is the red lights district?

I know its in amsterdam but what is it and what do people do there?

Ahhaah,okay,basically;; There are women who strip or do other matured acts behind glass windows or walls,which are lit up in red lights along the streets. They arnt only found in Amsterdam,but the largest amount are.

The red light district in Amsterdam is the most famous one, but actually they exist in most major European cities where prostitution is legal. The prostitutes display themselves in a window and solicit. Passer-bys can stop and negotiate with the woman on a price for whatever sexual act they want, within certain limitations.

Red light districts are usually seedy areas, especially in Amsterdam where a lot of illegal drug selling and petty crime also take place. They’re called “red light” districts because the street lamps are usually a red color, and the prostitutes’ windows are also rimmed with a reddish pink glowing light.
