What is the main reason the British don't use the Euro?

I’m asking this out of curiosity, not because I have an opinion either way. Is it because the GBP is actually stronger than the Euro and they don’t want to link their economy to a slightly weaker currency? Or is the UK still waiting to see if the Euro will have longterm success? Or is public opinion in the UK still hesitant to embrace European unity?

I’ve talked with many Europeans, mainly Germans, Italians, and Luxembourgers, and not everyone in Europe is all excited about the EU and the Euro. Some people are against it. I’m just wondering how the British feel?

Im scottish and I feel that it would make a lot of things easier if everyone in the EU were to have the Euro as their currency then we would alll be dealing with the same monetary units,, well thats my opinion anyway

Answer #2

Many people on our little island are traditionalists and dont wanrt to lose our existing currancy that is hundreds of years old.

Any political party that dares to change this will almost certainly lose the next election.
