What is the difference between modem and router I need help please?

What is the difference between a modem and a router because I just got a cable modem for internet and I wanna get internet 4 my psp but I cant find the ssid for it and I tried doing it manually but that dosent work either plzzz help do I need a router or did I mess something up starting up my connection please please please please help thank you

What you really need is a wireless access point. Sometimes, they’re included as part of a router. Most often, though, they’re mistakenly called a “wireless router” when they’re really not a router at all. A wireless access point will connect directly to your cable modem using Ethernet cable, allowing wireless clients (like a laptop) to connect to the internet through it.
