What is lent?

What exactly is lent? I think it has something to do with religion, that’s why I put it in that category.

Lent is not only Catholic. It is the period of the church calendar (Catholic or Protestant) that begins 40 days before Easter, on Ash Wednesday. Christians believe that this time is meant for preparation for Christ’s return through resurrection on Easter.

The Catholic church originally treated Lent as a very serious time of self-denial, which included fasting. That has given way to the idea of “giving up” something for Lent, which now Catholics as well as non-Catholics tend to do, but more as a tradition than as a serious religious conviction.

Lent is a period of time on the Catholic liturgical calendar where we prepare for Jesus Christs Resurrection. so we fast (by eating on meat on fridays and giving up something) then we read the bible passages of Christ’s life and how he died on the cross for us. So the most imporant days of lent are Holy thursday (the day Jesus was condemned) Good friday ( the day Jesus was crucified) Holy Saturday ( the day of waiting for Jesus to come again) and Easter Sunday (when Jesus is resurrected from the dead and saves everyone from their sins). This is probly one of the most imporant days of the year for Catholics.

It is a Catholic ritual. Since I am not Catholic, that is all I will say about it. Perhaps a Catholic will better explain it to you.
