You might want to consider a different approach to your paper. Why not study how public trust in the US government has changed over time? Americans have had different levels of trust in the government throughout history. That might be a more interesting topic.

1. Only power hungry megolomaniacs seek office
2. Megolomaniacs will sell you out for a cup of coffee

The reason there is so much mistrust in the government is because conservatives have so successfully painted the picture that government can’t do anything well. And when they get into power, the prove it though there own incompetence and mismanagement.

Government should never be fully trusted. That is why the founders included separation of powers with checks & balances. There was meant to be complete transparency in the way government operates.. That has diminished over time, and the people have become complacent and disinterested. That it until it starts hitting them in the wallet.

I think Obama is a different kind of politician, and that is why conservatives are fighting back so hard and nasty.
