Wanting a puppy?

Okay. so I really want a puppy! I’ve tried everything to get my parents to get one (we have one but he is old, my moms and he is a small dog and I don’t really like those ha ha). I said I would save up for it. I’m responsible. I take care of the dog we have right now. I’d even pay for the food. please help me!

dont give up on asking okay. but also try to understand your parents view in this matter. remember that you are asking for an addition to the family.

The thing is, you’ll be gone in just a few short years, and the puppy you get now, will become your parent’s responsibility…for MANY years following your departure from home. You’d probably do better convincing them that THEY need another dog, to keep the one little one company…help keep it “young”, help it to lose weight, etc etc…

All you can do is keep asking, show them you are responsible, help out more around the house, do your chores, keep your grades up, respect your parents, and follow their rules. If they still won’t let you have one - you will just have to wait until you live on your own.

it is a bit of a problem when it comes to the fact that in a few years your parents are going to be left with the dog, when you leave, and that isn’t relly fair on your parents, if you wanted though, you couse rescue and older dog, they are usually readily castrated and vaccinated etc., they need less exercise, and your parents will not have to look after the dog when you leave. usually they do not have all of their puppy-like energy and are usually toilet trained. Not to mention the fact that you will be saving the life of some poor dog, stuck in the kennels, facing euthanisation if it does not get rehomed.

Also, dogs are not always put in kennels because they have behavioiural problems, in a lot of cases, owners have moved house and cannot take they dog with them or they could not financially look after the dog, they may not have been able to spend enough time with the dog so thought it was fairer on the dog to give it away, or its owner may have died, leaving the dog homeless.

The best of luck
