Do you think it's possible to make yourself love someone? Same time, do you think it's possible to make yourself not love someone?

Basically, can you force yourself to love/like someone that you normally wouldn’t or when you really don’t? Like make yourself think that you like them more than you actually do? And then the exact opposite. Can you really make yourself not love/like someone that you actually do? Does either actually work successfully?

Answer #1

In a nutshell; No. Love is a chemical reaction from the brain. This chemical is a hormone, and you cannot control which hormone the brain secrets. Now, your brain CAN do the opposite and make you think that you love somebody that you don’t.

Answer #2

Yes, repeat it with feeling enough times to yourself and it will become a belief which your RAS will work on solidifying once formed. However, you have re frame it in ways which will be conducive to making it happen. For example: If your self talk says, “I don’t like her”, you have to re-frame it as “I didn’t like her uptill now”

70% of love is self imposed and self created by thought processes such as:

  1. Mis interpretation
  2. Projection
  3. Magnification
  4. Creative imagination

Once you get to the point where you start to think you ‘love’ the other person, these thought processes will kick in and intensify the feeling.

I know there are people who advocate, “It just happens! Magically!” But I don’t think I can completely agree with that, even though I don’t completely deny.

However, in any way, I rather prefer to let feeling develop as they may and not try to manipulate the process in any way.

For possibility sakes: Yes, you can mentally manipulate yourself to start liking someone you don’t and to start disliking someone you do. But that’s the last thing I would recommend - as I am strong believer in authenticity.

‘Love’ is a word society injected as rationalization for the intense feelings of ‘affection’. It’s nothing supernatural, neither is it any less than one of the most beautiful elements in the world.

Answer #3

So you’re saying that you can make yourself “love/like” someone…you make yourself think that you do when you really don’t, but if you really do love/like someone then that’s going to be there no matter how much you fight it?

Answer #4

What’s RAS? So since you agree, do you believe that either can last? Or do you think that the real stuff will eventually shine through?

Answer #5

Yes, they can last - because then your subconscious believes they are the ‘real stuff’. R.A.S - Reticular Activating System. You can google it, it has a variety of functions but mainly it zones in on this which have value to you in the long term or in the moment. .. –Andrew
