Do the new VW Bugs have the motor in back and trunk in front?

I know the old ones have the motor in the back, and the trunk is in the front. My question is: Are the new ones like that too?

The VW New Beetle is basically a VW Golf with a retro inspired shape so it is front wheel engine and front wheel drive. It also has less back seat room and less storage than the boxier Golf. You have to give up something for the cute shape.

I bought one for my ex-. Overall it was a nice car. It was a turbo and I got it up to triple digit speeds a few times while passing cars on country roads; the turbo had a lot of zip.

The odd thing about driving it is how far away the windshield is. In that respect you feel like you are driving a bus.

My ex’s had an automatic transmission and had an odd quirk where when you are driving down the road it went into neutral and wouldn’t go back into gear until after you came to a full stop. The dealer thinks they fixed the problem but it was so intermittent only time would tell and I no longer talk to my ex so I don’t know. Shifting is more fun anyway so if you are getting a beetle I’d recommend getting a standard transmission..

My wife wants a New Beetle convertable. I want to enjoy not having a car payment for as long as possible so no new cars while we have two dependable cars paid off.

The only thing the new VW Beetle (a.k.a “Dungbeetle”) really has in common is similarity in shape. As others have noted, the engine is not at the rear on the Dungbeetle.

Okay thank you, I hadn’t seen the new ones close up, so I was wondering. :)
