Teenage pregnancies, any advice?

Right me and my boyfriend have been together for quite a while now, and it’s got to the stage where we spend 24/7 together. It’s basically like he has moved in with me and my Dad. His quite a bit older than me as I’m 17 soon to be 18, where as he is soon to be 22. Our relationship is stable and we’re totally in love. For the last couple of weeks we’ve been saying about starting to try for a baby on his birthday (end of Nov). I was being serious and I thought he was only joking, but then last night he said if it’s what I wanted he’d do it as he feels his ready. I personally have had a lot of expeirence with babies and children, where as he hasn’t had as much. We’ve worked everything out and I said to him if he got a decent job then I’d go through with it, as I dont want to be a family that cant afford to provide properly. His said now that his going to try his damn hardest to get the best job he can and to make everything work out right. Aswell as him working I’m looking for work for the weekends, so we can start saving. I know your going to tell me I’m too younge, but it is what we want. I’d just like some advice from people who have had children at a younge age. And how things worked out for them. x

I am 23 years old, I have a 3 month old son, and it is still really hard at times. Being a mother takes a lot more mentally and physically than people think. It’s not an easy job by any means. This is something that you should think about after you have a good career, youv’e finished school, and your married. I’m not saying your not old enough, I’m just saying that having a baby should have a lot more thought put into it than that. People see babies and are like oh their soo cute. Did you think about these things though… Do you have health insurance that will cover you and the baby? Do you think you and your partner will last forever? Are you ready to be up all night every night feeding and taking care of the child? Can you afford to buy diapers and formula 3 or more times a week? Can you afford everything you need for the baby? Do you have somewhere permanant to live (not including your parents house)?

I really don’t suggest it - I mean if you are so in ‘love’ than why cant you wait I made that mistake of trying with an ex, him and I were together for a really long time and were both working. So we tried for a baby, thankfully didn’t succed. As time went by I realized what a mistake I was making and cleaned up my act. He didn’t accept that I wasn’t ready for it and we broke up. I’m so glad I am through that stage without ending up pregnant, I have such a good life now and I know I couldn’t deal with a child. I mean at your age you have other things you need to focus on, don’t bring a baby into this world that you and I both know wouldn’t get everything it needs. Babies aren’t just cute little things, they are A LOT of work and need A LOT of attention. If you are smart you’ll wait till you are all done your education and have a good career, then you will be on your way to a good life. Him having a ‘decent job’ is nothing, he needs to be through college atleast so he has a career.

If you two really care about eachother you’ll wait till you are actually on the road to a good life, both have good careers too. Don’t be in such a rush to grow up, its not worth it. I’m 19-years-old and even I wouldn’t be able to raise a child, I’m with someone who works TWO full-time jobs and even we wouldn’t be able to provide the proper care for a child. You have a lot of learning to do, don’t let a child be the result of this irresponsible decision.
