How to teach a hyperactive 3 year old with a short attention span?

Answer #1

Have a fast paced and exciting lesson that involves movement, different colors, maybe a game, anything to draw in their attention.

Answer #2

well, I’ve been trying puzzles and memory games, flash cards, reading books and all of it is spiderman since thats what he is obsessed with but it still can only hold him down for a minute or two. he cant even sit still to watch anything. I really think he may have ADHD. I did. and watching him try to sit still is like watching him fighting himself.

Answer #3

Aren’t they all hyperactive with short attention spans at that age? lol. I know my son sure is (he will be 3 in july). What works for us is teaching using things that he loves. He is obsessed with Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Handy Manny at the moment and we have been using that to our advantage to teach colors, numbers, and pictures. When its something he is interested in he is way more likely to pay attention. Also, learning and teaching should happeen all day. While your driving point out signs and lights and ask what colors or shapes they are, you can do this is stores also for more variety. Talk to him constantly (as an adult, not in kid gibberish) and explain everything your doing while your doing it - its been proven to help young kids learn faster. When all else fails - rewards tend to go a long way. Keep a drawer or box full of cheap dollar store toys that he can choose from after he learns something new.

Answer #4

I’d suggest a physical activity, games that involve movement, instead of having him sit still.
