It really doesn't matter with oil pastels. Though you don't have to necessarily have thick paper, depending on what you plan on creating on the paper, it may prove to be a good idea.
canvas is best. i always work with all that art stuff so i know about that stuff :) you can use regular paper but its just isnt as good
Canvas works Alot better, you can use paper but it needs to be thick paper.
