Should I study in The Netherlands or Canada?

This is a huuge question for me. I live in belgium but i am canadian. I’m debating whether to study at a vocational university in Utrecht (more practical) in holland or a university in canada (york). I just need some help (pros and cons) from people who have been to these schools or know people who have been. I’m in such a rut.. i don’t know what to do. Oh yeah and i want to study Communications.

I’m go to York University in Canada haha what a coincidence. In my first year, I’ve actually taken a communications course - intro to communications (COMN1310) which I’m pretty sure you’d need to take if you decide to go to York, or an equivalent. I’ve heard the communications program in York is pretty good though I am not a communications major myself.

In your first and second year, a lot of courses will be split into lecture and tutorial. Tutorials are basically splitting the students in the lecture (often several hundreds of them) into smaller highschool-like classroom where you will have a tutorial leader (TA) who will discuss what you learned in lecture and the readings you had to do. Along with that, having a TA gives you more of an opportunity to ask for help if you need it rather than the professor with several hundred students. You will find this lecture/tutorial split in some third and forth year courses as well depending on the course.

York does have a lot of clubs, activities, sports you can join if you were interested as well as school-wide events that you can join (though I myself being anti-social have never bothered haha). Along with that you will see there are many groups for different races, sexuality, religions, or other groups of people, pretty much all are welcome and allowed to celebrate or worship or discuss within the school during their sort-of-a-club thing. York sells tickets at a lower price for many events where students usually go out with their friends. My friends and I bought tickets to Medieval times for $20 usually the tickets cost about 60, and we went with a large number of York students, kind of like a field trip. York has dances, we have a bar, they hold just for fun events like Dirty Bingo. York has a lot of restaurants that you can go to for lunch and a gym which you can buy a yearly membership for $15 I believe. York has a massive library, 4-5 floors, I can’t remember, lots of studying spaces, computers -though the computers are rather slow. Commuting to York is fairly easy as there are quite a lot of public transit buses that go there. I personally find York really boring though, I usually leave as soon as I can, but that’s mostly because of my lack of friends in school. You can make a lot of friends if you wanted especially with the Frosh week that they hold for new first years, that’s where most people make friends in first year.

I’m not quite sure what else you’d like to know haha. I’m not sure if you’re aware but tuition is rather high, though a lot of the students are able to get the government issued grant that was newly promised. Textbooks are pricey, but I’d imagine that were the same with any university. I have no idea how tuition prices would compare with the university Holland though.

That’s all I can think of off the top of my head, if you have any questions ask lol.
