I was at the thrift store about six months ago, and there was a used diabetic's needle, which at the time I did not realize that, as I thought it was a key chain lazer. Seeing as I am an idiot, I stuck my finger over the end to make it light up, but instead got the nasty surprise of a needle in my finger. It poked through the skin, and bleed, and I am worried that I might have caught something. I am only thirteen, so... I have a few questions: 1. how long does it take for germs and diseases on a used needle in open air to die? 2. what are my chances of getting aids or something from it? 3. when should i get tested and where can i? 4. what do they do at the tests? 5. my mom knows and said she will get me tested in a year. is that to long a wait? 6. how can i stop worrying?! I agree with Iffy. It's a good idea to get tested right away. The doctors will probably only take a blood sample. I think a year would be too long to wait, tell your mom you want to get tested as soon as possible. Even though I think you're fine, prevention really is better than cure. Better to get tested and make sure everything is fine rather than wait.
It depends on what kind of germ was on the needle to know how long it takes for it to die in open air, but I'm sure you're fine. I don't understand why there was a used diabetic's needle in the thrift shop in the first place. You should get tested immediately, just tell your doctor about the situation. They will probably take a blood sample.
For HIV i think you have to wait...sure i saw on TV someone get told you need testing say now and in a few months coz HIV virus can take time to show up?...but yeah why wait?
