I too, had a bad relationship with my parents and it is still being mended. Best advice I can give is asking her to do this with you: -establish a rule that nobody walks away angry. You will both make time to see this through or things get left unsaid and it festers and gets worse. -make sure both parties understand that complaints do not mean lack of love, rather the need to change because there is love. -each of you grab a piece of paper and write what is “bothering” you about the relationship. I wrote down every resentment and every painful memory and she wrote down what she felt about our relationship. -The rule is one person will now read their piece, and the other person is not allowed to speak until they are done talking. -Then the other person goes (you can make notes on how each thing makes you feel as she talks so you remember when she is done and it is your turn to respond what you needed to say). -Now the first person will respond to the second persons piece and so forth.

This will hopefully open up some dialogue and set the stage for major repair work. After all is said and done, the two of you need a plan. Talk about how you would make it better for the two of you and compromise. When that is done, put your plans into action and try to spend time together.

I don’t know the details of your relationship but this is very general. Not every relationship can be saved but I found that if everyone lets their resentments and frustrations to be said out loud and THEN move on, as opposed to just moving forward, this works much better for a long term solution.

Well you two arent talking for a reason, right? okay well this reason needs to be forgotten. You can’t dwell over silly things that would tear apart a relationship of a mother and daughter. If you really want to have a close relationship with her you need to take the first steps, you need to start talking to her more, asking about HER and HER feelings. Show interest. You need to be there for each other and you need to really listen to each others problems. Hopefully you both want to resolve your issues with each other and if thats the case then it shouldnt be too hard. Remind yourself of the times you two were close for example if you two used to bake together, bake her something you used to bake with her. Show her how much she means to you and how much you appreciate her.

Take steps to show her that you’d like a relationship with her again. Show an interest in her activities, find a common interest, share activities together, take steps to talk out your previous problems and find a common ground. Much as this sounds bad, I remember recently your mother suffered a heart attack, go to her, take care of her, remind her that you still care and love her. Perhaps this can help andbe both of your first steps in repairing your relationship.
