After the summer holidays I'll be going into 5th year. If I do well with my 4 highers and int.2 maths in the final exams May 2014 (getting A's or B's). I live in Scotland. Should I continue into 6th year and grab a few extra highers or after those exams go straight into uni to study history and possibly become a teacher? I'm not sure as although I know i'll most likely meet the entry requirements, (could be Glasgow uni). I'm not too sure if staying in 6th year will increase my chances of getting into university or with the 4 highers & int.2 that my chances of entering university are just as good and likely? Would 6th year be worth my time? Would college also be a way of helping to get me extra qualifications to attend university? If so how?
I'm from Scotland and left 6th year last year (class of 2012) and I would say DEFINITELY stay for 6th year - regardless if say your bored of it or don't like the teachers etc. even if, like you said you had an idea of what career choice you want to do.
My sister is/would be the same year and you and is doing 5 highers for her 5th year as she wants to be a vet and I'm convincing her the same thing as I'm putting across to you.
For example - my best pal, did 5 highers in 5th year and got all As and stayed for 6th year and did advanced highers etc. 6th year will give you the oppertunity to look into unis for after you leave school, you'd leave with more qualifications which will help alot more for getting jobs and everything.
So, STAY! Need any of advice give us a shout!
P.S. if your given the chance for duke of Edinburgh award - do it! It's a little boring but it can be the decider of it you get your uni place or not. Especially if it's a popular and competitive place for eg medicine.
