They cannot leave their shell, they are born with it and it grows with them.
I don’t know how they get the “first” one, not sure if they’re born with it or they find one but I know from Spongebob, as they grow, they find shells to accomodate their size.
No, it grows with them. they aren’t hermit crabs.
