Smoking & drinking while pregnant

I have a friend who is 6 weeks pregnant. Ever since I’ve known her (about 2 years) she has smoked and gotten drunk on a regular basis. She also does a small amount of drugs every now and then. She would smoke about a pack a day. She is now pregnant and I just assumed she would give all that crap up for the health of her baby. But to my horror I found out that all she is doing is smoking a pack a week rather than a day. She still drinks. I have begged her to stop for the sake of her baby but she just laughs it off and tells me im overreacting and it’s fine. I’m pretty damn sure it’s not fine. Can someone please give me some cold hard facts or SOMETHING that I can say to scare her into stopping this irresponsible behaviour? The baby shouldn’t have to suffer because she wants to drink and smoke!

Answer #1

…and even if the baby isn’t born with a deformity, the babies of women who smoke and/or drink tend to weigh much less at birth - which is NOT good. Every baby deserves to be born a full-term baby with normal weight.

Answer #2

drinking and taking drugs while pregnant can end up deforming and killing her unborn child it can even be born drug or nicotine dependant and then have withdrawl symptoms when its born if she does it so often etr her to look at websites that tell her more about how stupid and harmful drugs are while pregnant and id urge you to take her to a doctor so they can explain how harmful and dangerouse it is, and how it can affect and kill her unborn child

Answer #3

Also, the risk of fetal alcohol syndrome —where Mom drinks while pregnant– can cause her child to have many problems with developmental delay as one of the biggest problems.

Answer #4

Beat the hell out of her, she’s stupid

Answer #5

You should never drink while pregnant and if she doesnt do drugs often she should be ok but I would definately not be doing it to give my baby the best possible chance. and if shes always smoking cutting back is good but stopping cold turkey can kill your baby from the stress.
