small dog addition

Answer #1

I have two chihuahua’s, 1 Rottie and 1 Aussie, things are fine

When meeting for the first time, bring them separately to a park, a neutral meeting place where they can meet and get to know each other.

Bringing a new dog to the house straight away is usually not a good idea because your old dog sees the house as his territory, and the new dog can be seen as an intruder, and can be treated like one.

They should get along given some time, of course some dogs are friendlier than others and can assimilate into the family/pack quickly. You can expect your old dog snapping at the chihuahua sometimes, but your dog is most probably teaching it doggy manners around the house and letting the chihuahua know that it is lower ranked in the pack than your older dog.

I have 2 teacup chihuahuas and I recently got a pitbull my chihuahuas kinda tried to beat the pit up for a while ( believe it or not!) but after a while they were the best of friends

As mysterwolf says…neutral ground is a good place to meet…THEN take them for a walk together…one on each side…just walk, no stopping to pee, or sniff, it’s a “migratory walk”, just like wolves do…it enhances the “bonding”.

If your dog is already good with other small visitors, he’s probably going to be delighted you got him a friend…I don’t see this as causing much trouble at all. Until you get a “feel” tho, I’d spread out the food bowls, just in case anybody has hidden food aggression…but that will probably be the worst thing that might crop up…Too rough of play can be a problem…with the different sizes…but you as leader can put a damper on that if it starts getting wild.

The simple fact that your dog takes in “visitors” easily, tells me he’ll love his new bro…
