What is the scientific meaning of speed and the meaning of velocity?

What is the difference too? Thanks x

Answer #1

Speed is the distance covered over time. Velocity is the change in position over time. Here’s an example. An athlete runs 400 metres on a 400 metre track. Their speed will be 400 metres divided by how fast they ran. If you run 400 metres on a 400 metre track, you will end up in the same position you started in, therefore the displacement will be 0, because by the end of the run, they will be in the same position they started in. So basically displacement is how far is the position of the thing/person from its starting point.
