Great flood stories are common across many cultures. We are familiar with the great flood stories from Genesis and from the Epic of Gilgamesh. There are similar stories in Norse, Classical Greek, Hindu, Aztec, Mesopotamian, and Chinese traditions. Karl Jung studied stories like the great flood that seem ubiquitous across different cultures and termed them "archetypes."
Almost all of my anthropology professors have told me at some time or another that there are hardly any scholarly articles on the flood. For there to be a scholarly article there would have to be some kind of evidence and so far there just isn't any.
Look for the "black sea deluge hypothesis". For example here: http://funadvice.com/r/c01ebqt6m2c http://funadvice.com/r/3qsjuld64c http://funadvice.com/r/16cu7im3ueg
I tried to google it but it came up with websites. I'm sure there are scholarly articles out there about that kind of stuff though.
