Is scaring teens to improve their behavior a good idea?

I was just watching America Now and seen where parents sent their kids to a program at a jailhouse to show them what it will be like if they keep getting into trouble. At first I thought it wouldn’t be such a bad idea until I seen how harsh the guards were even when the kids did start to obey. Is this the right approach or should parents look into less intense punishments?

Yes it is. They want to be grown and act that way then they need to know the consequences of their actions. At least they arent staying there for long like most. They just get a taste of where they are headed. Most of the time it works dont it? Nobody wants to be there. they need to grow up and realize how the world works

Scared Straight?

At a certain point tough love can be necessary. Currently a lot of people think most parents are too permissive and that such tactics are necessary. I think tactics like this should be the absolute last resort after everything else has failed.

I agree with your last sentence.

Parents need to be harsher on there kids……if you think about it like ten years ago if a kid would of fallen from a tree and broke his leg they would of said “ you shouldent have climb it” now en days when a kid does that ..they cut down the tree and sometimes the parents will sue the place for haveing a dangerous tree there!

I’m not a bad teen; I don’t do d*ugs don’t drink– (unless close relatives permit it)–and I certainly don’t plan on having sex until I can take care of myself in full. Not when I’m married, but when I can take care of myself for sure, no assistance.

Anyway, I wish my parents would have..given me some foothold, if you will. A lot of times it was just “oh here, let me do that for you” and it leaves me confused on certain situations now. SO even if your kid isn’t BAD, gets good grades and is responsible like me–still give them something they need to do with punishments from the start.

I think scaring teens to improve their behaviour is a great idea.
