Right or Wrong?

my mother has in the past recent years done cocaine, and until now I’ve done nothing about it. she stopped for a while(because she was caught and on probation) but she just failed a pee test and now I(being 17) have the right to choose where I want to live. everybody is telling me that it would be best to stay at my boyfriends house until shes got it through her system, but I feel like im intruding in everybodys lives. was it the right thing to do by leaving her or should I go back?

Answer #1

Dear butterfliesforhope, This is not your battle. Your mother is making her own choices and she knows the consequences. She did not take a test without knowing she would fail…she failed because she is looking for help. Her probation officer should have her put in rehab for at least 21 days. You should be staying where you feel comfortable and where you are welcome. If that’s your boyfriends home then go. It would be great if we could change other people but we can’t we can only change the way we handle situations around us. Time to show your maturity…let mom deal with her own stuff and it’s time to take care of yours. Don’t let your mother hold you back. Sue…good luck

Answer #2

Definitely stay out of a bad or dangerous situation (which drugs can definitly be), but also take the time to make sure she knows you still love her and want her to overcome the addiction.

Answer #3

I dont know

you could on one hand move out say it was either the drugs or me and you picked drugs

OR

you can stay and show your mom support by not enabling her and telling her she has to stop and your willing to help or she can stay fuked up her whole life

my heart goes out to you girl I know what its like but if she has never walked out on you shudnt either

she has no one

Answer #4

some rehabs will tell friends and family of an addict that the addict has to hit a “bottem” before they change their behavior. That means they have to lose everything important to them before they realize how drugs or alcohol have destroyed their life. I encourage you to attend an al-anon meeting for guidance. It is a support group of people who have addict loved ones. Your mom’s priorities are not in the right place, so you need to take care of yourself. Funmail me if you like. I wish you the best.

Answer #5

Yes. Show your mom that either you go or the drugs. Nothing else seems to work for her. Its for the good of both of you. And if your boyfriend loves you, he’ll support your decision, and so will his family because they understand your situation. Just make it clear how much you appreciate it, and demonstrate that you, int turn, are a bright and responsible young woman. They’ll respect and support to no end…trust me.

Answer #6

you should go back and show support.:)
