Do you need a provisional driving license to take the driving theory test?

just wondering if i have to have provisional to take the theory test ? in the UK by the way.

Answer #1

You do need your provisional license before you can apply for your theory test in the UK, yes :) It is also worth noting that once you pass your theory test, it is only valid for 2 years. If you pass your practical test in this time, then it is fine, but if you don’t then you will need to resit it whilst you continue to learn and before you can tke the practical test. For this reason it is best to apply for your provisional license, start learning and check you like it, then take your theory whilst you continue to learn and book in for your practical whenever ready.

Answer #2

If you are a learner driver you must take and pass your theory test before you book your practical test. If you already have a driving licence you might not have to take another theory test if you want to start driving a different vehicle.
