I am so stressed because I got this female betta fish at a pet store and when I got home, I realized that she had eggs in her. I've been deciding if I wanted to breed bettas but I haven't researched it at all at this point. I wasn't prepared for this so I looked up all of this stuff, got some books on betta fish but they didn't answer this question. I am terrible with the internet so I really couldn't find out anything about this. I don't want her to die and I tried to do what the internet said to do and how to introduce the male with the female. It is SO dangerous and I don't want one or both of them to die! Please help!
No, they really do! The books I bought say that. That's why it's so dangerous. The male squeezes the eggs out and brings the eggs to the bubble nest he makes and guards them until they hatch. Then he tries to eat them.
Yes female bettas will lay the eggs without the male, but they will be unfertilized. Here's a website where i found somewhat the same question as you had and answers
