Pollinating a cherry tree

I just read that a bing cherry tree needs another compatible tree in order to get pollinated and get a good crop. I just bought a tree but got discouraged from this information. I do not have enough space in my yard for two trees that could grow up to 30 feet. is there anybody who could shed light on this?

A bing cherry tree really does need another tree for pollination, the most common being Rainer. You could also get a black Tartarian and there may be a couple of others. You can’t get another Bing.

There really isn’t another way around this if you want your tree to produce fruit… although I’ve heard/read suggestions that at the right time, if you have friends who have these trees, you can take a few cuttings from them, flowering or budding, put them in some water under your tree… but I don’t know how long you’d have to do that or if it would even work.

You also don’t have to let the tree grow to 30 feet - you can prune it regularly and still get blossoms :)
