Pros: instantly ready for action, don’t have to break the rhythm / mood to fumble for a condom, the feeling is usually more intimate for both partners. The Pill is more effective than condoms. If you have medical insurance they are cheaper. No yucky rubbers to throw away or have the kids (or pet) find. Pills can’t break during use or fall off.

A great many varieties are out there, and they have different side effects on different women. You should be willing to work with your doctor to find the best fit. Another side affect can be the lessening of your sex drive. Again, switching brands can do away with this.

The major pluses for condoms don’t really apply to monogamous couples, which is protection from STD’s and ready birth control for newly formed couples (I.e. one night stands). If you continue to use condoms, please get the morning after pill - PLAN B - and keep it in case your condom does break or come off. It is available without prescription at the pharmacy counter. Even at Wal-Mart.

Hope this helped. Good Luck !!

Don’t forget there’s also the patch, the shot, and the iud.

There are so many pills out there, it just depends on you and your needs.

How many periods do you want? - You can have 4 periods a year(seasonel) or NO periods a year (Lybrel). And with any pill you have the convenience of skipping your period if you are going on vacation or something.

Then there are different doses of estrogen and progesterone and it’s hard to tell how you’re body will react. There are monophasic pills (1 level of hormones for the whole cycle) and triphasic pills (3 levels of hormones for the cycle). Personally I prefer monophasic ones. Most girls I know who have gotten pregnant while on the birth control pill were on a triphasic type.

A lot of people believe the pill makes you gain weight but that’s a myth.

You might be a little moody when you first go on them, that’s normal. Anytime you start a pill or change pills you should try it out for 3 months before switching.

You’re smart to go on the pill. It has a 3% failure rate compared to condoms 15% failure rate.

I’ve been on Ortho Cyclen for 3 years and I’ve never had a problem. I was pretty moody when I first started(for a few months) but I guess my body just had to get used to the doses of hormones.

Goodluck!

You may have to try a few to find one that you really like and the thing about gaining or loosing weight really depends on you! I have never had any problems with gaining weight and I think I may have lost 5 lbs since I have been on BC, which isn’t very significant for me. But some side effects of BC are: weight gain or loss, nausia, breast pain, lowered sex drive, high blood pressure, and headaches… some pros are regulation of menstrual cycle (shorter, lighter), help with menstrual symptoms (PMS/PMDD), you can skip periods (I only have 4 a year with the pill that I use), clears up your skin and they are more effective than a condom! I reccomend the pill YAZ, it works for me! I have also tried Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo (made nautious all the time and extra mooody and lowered my sex drive) and Yasmin (Okay but didn’t offer the PMS/PMDD help like YAZ does!). You just have to find what works for you though really and if you start to have bad symptoms just stop taking that pill and try another one! Good luck!

GO FOR IT! everybodys body reacts differently to the pill, but as far as PROS. the pill is more reliable, more convienent, and less periods to deal with

The main thing is that you youll n-joy intimacy MUCH more than with condoms.

Remember you can always just get off the pill easily if youre not happy

dont take pills. it doesnt make you gain or lose it just depends on your body. if you take the pill you have o take it every day at the exact same time and hen itl start working in about a month. there are shots now you get once a month and they work the day you get it. talk to your doctor about it.
