Should my parents get hearing aids?

For many, many years now I’ve had to repeat EVERYTHING I say to them 2 times for my mom and 3 times for my dad and for many, many years now they’ve denied that they need hearing aids but, doesn’t it make since if they can’t hear they should at least get their hearing checked? They claim that they can hear but, that I just mumble. That is simply 100% faulse! Other people around us can even hear what I say when I talk to my parents. What do you think? Should they at least get their hearing checked?

Answer #1

Maybe, but that is their choice. They might not want to accept that they’re getting older and that their hearing may be going. It’s a tough thing to go through, I’m sure.

Answer #2

It’s SO frusterating!

Answer #3

Maybe, but it probably wouldn’t hurt for you to speak a little more louder for them either?

My parents are often like that too. They say I speak too quietly, but others can hear me fine. Sometimes it gets really frustrating, but I love my parents and it really doesn’t hurt me to repeat something or speak up.

As Cassie said, it really is their choice. Most probably won’t admit to having a hard time hearing because they don’t want to feel old or like their bodies are going through these unwanted changes, so try going easy on them. Again, I really do understand how frustrating it is. Just try to see it from their point of view too.

Answer #4

I speak loud already. It’s actually embarrassing how loud my voice is. I have a very loud but deep voice. so that’s not the problem.

Answer #5

You should try to convince your parents to get the hearing test done. The audiologist would be able to check the hearing loss and if they need hearing aids he would be the best person to explain the benefits of wearing them to your parents.
