Parental Problems

Hi, I was wondering what the laws for an 18 year old and a 16 year old dating are. Her and I have been dating since november of 2008, I was 17 when we started dating and have fallen in love, but since I turned 18 her parents have been acting really weird and are trying to keep us apart. Her father said he could hve me arrested for statuatory rape.

What I want to know is how I can stay in the relationship, can I be arrested? I love her dearly and cant loose her over rediculous parents, please help me.

well in the uk its legal for a 16 year old to date a 18 year old lol, im 16 and I have been going with my boyfriend for 4 months who is 19 :) once you reach the age of 16 in the uk you have reached the age of consent so theres nothing really that anyone can do :) x

My brother almost went to prison over this today. I will quote what the officer said: “an 18 year old shouldn’t be dating a 16 year old”.

It really depends if you’re having sex or not. My boyfriend and I have been together since October 2007. I was 14 and he was 16 when we started dating. Now we are 16 and 18. We asked the law about this personally. They said that the safest way to not have anything started is to have your parents (if they care) and her parents draw up papers saying that they are both okay with an 18 year old dating a 16 year old. That’s the safest way to make sure you don’t get into trouble for being in love. I wish you the best. xoxo

Unfortunately yes you can be arrested if you are having sex. If you are not having sex and can prove it than there should be no problem.

I went through the same thing wth my b/f. we got together when I was 14 and he was 17. I know its kind of a big difference, but we are still together and I am 19 and he is turning 23 this year. when we first started going out it was very difficult my parents and his parents know we were together, but legally unless you get married and have consent to at that age he would have got in trouble wth the law. but we kept our relationship very quite, and we didnt even hold hands or kiss or anythin in public. so I m sry 2 tell you this but the only way to get passed this is to get married, emancipated, or just keep it secret. thats my advice.

I know in Ontario Canada once you’ve reached 16 years of age you’ve reached the age of consent. And as like as there’s no more then a 5y age range then it’s okay. But that’s in Ontario Im not sure about anywhere else. My police officer daddy told me this. :) and Maybe you should talk to her parents and let them know that you love her and your not in it for the dirty.
