What is your opinion on supermarkets selling peeled bananas, wrapped up in plastic?

I found this photo on the web. There appears to be a supermarket that peels bananas and then gives them an artificial peel by packing them in plastic.

Answer #1

Sorry, the photo did not attach to the question. So here it comes.

Answer #2

That’s quite weird that they would peel them then wrap with in the plastic packaging, why not just save money on the packaging and sell them in the bunches in the skin? I don’t know, I would feel like they’re already ‘off’ in the plastic packaging before I’d even bought them.

Answer #3

I think it’s just another marketing ploy for lazy people. Quite a useless idea, peeling a banana is quite fast and easy.

Answer #4

Peeled bananas look awkward but you know someone out there is going to pay for it! It’s just another way to make profit.

Answer #5

Seems strange to me. Like Janjan said a marketing ploy or maybe the peelings didn’t look “attractive” enough to display. I’m positive we could feed the world if so much wasn’t thrown away just because doesn’t “look” perfect, even though it’s just fine.

Answer #6

just a different approach really. i dont see anything wrong with it! and you are saying its for lazy people but i know when i want a banana i hate spending time to peel it because im usaly hungry and just want to sit down from either just waking up or a long day at school/work

Answer #7

It wastes resources and is STUPID. If you can’t peel a friggin’ banana, how are you going to ‘peel’ it out of it’s plastic wrapping? D’uh. Stupid beyond stupid.

Answer #8

But you still have to unpack it out of the plastic wrap. Is this really faster and more comfortable than just peeling it?

Answer #9

We have them here. These are “reduced” bananas. They’re past their prime, so the grocer peels, them, then packages them like this so they can be sold on the reduced rack for baking and so on. They peel them because the peels, at this point, are usually quite brown, and nobody will buy them even though the banana inside is still in good condition.
