What is your opinion on overly pampered dogs, and other animals?

Answer #1

While i would never paint my dogs nails or put it in clothes (unless it is a harsh winter), i dont see the harm in people overly pampering their pets. Its alot better than the pets being ignored and neglected. As long as what they are doing to the animal doesnt cause physcial pain (such as dyeing the hair and piercing their ears) i have no problem with it. Pets dont understand dignity so the crazy outfits dont embaress them. lol

I totally over pamper my boys! And I love it! My son is grown up, they are my babies now. I don’t see anything wrong with it as long as the dogs still have rules and proper training so they aren’t tyrants.

I have a small dresser of clothes for my Chihauhua and Pug. They usually only wear clothes when the weather is cold/wet or on special occassions (They have Santa outifts, Tuxedos, Halloween outfits etc.)

I love my boys and proudly say I spoil them outrageously, but they have also both been to obedience classes, are very well behaved, get proper exercise (they both trot beside the bike and are rippling muscles) and I am the pack leader, not them.

I find it too strange to humanize dogs by giving them shoes and coats ect. Anyway, my dog is surely part-wolf; he’d just rip them up ^_^ I see no problem in giving them a specialized coat if they are short-haired or if it’s cold but clothing for animals… no. Just no :S

We have a maltese puppy, so naturally because of dog-training etc we have met other people with teacup dogs and I find it appalling when people overly pamper their dogs. We take our dog to the doggie beauty salon to be groomed and her fur cut, which is fine because we have to. But I really dislike it when I’m walking down the road and there is a dog in somebody’s handbag with clothes and a bow on (It’s the middle of Summer! That poor thing must be frying!) I despise doggy clothes (except doggie raincoats) and especially doggie shoes. It’s a DOG not a TOY! Dogs need to be able to roll in grass and run around outside, not be kept in a cage 22 hours of the day, then let out to be used as an accessory for the owner’s outfit! This is also why I hate dog and cat-shows.

Answer #5

I love it :p I paint my dog’s nails and put clothes on him sometimes. I bought him a really cute winter coat. It has a skull on it, and it has fur around the collar :D He has a raincoat too, plus more clothes. I spoil him sometimes. He’s my baby(:

Answer #6

lots of people pamper pets so they dont feel the need for another baby or before they are ready.I think its sweet.

Answer #7

I dont see it as pampering. My cat is ridiculously spoilt, but I dont go attaching things to her or dressing her up in ridiculous stuff. I seriously doubt too many dogs love attachments and stuff. It’s a personal feeling. To me it’s like doing that to a baby. In some cases it is just cruel. But it is better than animals who are neglected.

Answer #8

i think that dogs have survived in the wild for centuries so i personally would never dress my dog up or anything like that and i think that people who do it are cruel :/

Over-pampering your animals can lead to alot of behavioural problems as well as alot of health problems such as obesity if they are always being given treats etc. So, it’s not a good thing from a welfare point of view but then again if you look after your animal and feed it the right things but then say, dress it up- i think that is fine. As long as its not hurting or distressing them. The problem with alot of people is that they anthropomorphise meaning they put human attributes onto non-human species i.e, dogs, cats… Humans want to feel loved whether we like it or not- we are pack animals ourselves but we have to understand that treating our animals like royalty is not okay if they are to develop health problems as a result. They are animals and they should be respected and looked after but i think we forget that we can also kill them with kindness too.

Answer #10

I think It’s TOOO much..

Answer #11

I agree

Answer #12

Because.. You might OVER SPOIL the dog.. and the dog will learn when it wants something it will demand it.. and Like… I think it is too muchh.. I know you want to treat your dog right.. but not ALL THEE WAYY!!!!

Answer #13

When my previous dog got old i bought him sweaters and a raincoat to keep him warm and he absolutely loved them. I wouldn’t go as far as painting nails or anything but keeping my dog warm and dry was more of a necessity rather then overly pampering him.
