How do oil spills (like the recent BP spill and the Exxon-Valdez spill) affect the surrounding cities' local business and the economy?

Answer #1

oil gets caught on the fish and they die, then we have a shortage on fish

Answer #2

the economy goes bad. jobs are on hold, like fishermen and offshore working, making the unemployment rate rise. no one is going to resturants anymore because they don’t want to eat seafood that’s been in crude oil, so the resturants don’t get enough business to stay open, and they close down. also, no one can go to the beaches because of the oil, which makes the tourism rates drop, and the money made from tourists is no more. the oil gets in the water, thus making water being drunk harder to distill and clean, making the cost of water going up. eventually people move away because the cost of living gets to be too much, and that hurts the southern workforce.

Answer #3
