New dog - HELP.
I just got a new dog about a week ago. I gave her a bath the first day I got her… what I want to know is how often should I give her a bath? Also, should I wait to start teaching her tricks (Ex: sit, play dead, stay, shake, ect)? She is about 3 months old. Half poodle, half chihuahua. I’ve had a dog before, but it was when I was a little girl, so I didn’t know what to do… my parents took care of the dog. Any other tips? I’d really appreciate it? :)
From zoombak.com:
Depends on a number of variables such as the type of coat your dog has, lifestyle and environmental differentiations, climate and geography and the owner’s tolerance for dander.
Your dog’s coat is a perfect indication of how often it should be bathed. Dogs with a fine, smooth coat need not be washed more than once every two months, unless they get particularly dirty. You don’t want to over-bathe smooth coated dogs because it can tamper with the oils they produce as a natural waterproof for protection of their skin. The other extreme belongs to dogs that have long silky coats. In order to preserve the shine on these coats consider a bath at least once a month; reduce that time period down to every three weeks for outside dogs. Curly-coated dogs that don’t shed can wait as long as two months between washings.
While a silky coat requires more frequent bathing than a smooth coat, a Jack Russell Terrier that spends its days outdoors will probably need to be bathed more often than a Yorkie that spends his day inside an apartment.
Likewise, dogs kept in a warmer climate should be bathed at least a week more often than the above guidelines due to the threat of tick and flea infestation. And finally, if you find yourself sneezing in the presence of your dog, you may be having an allergic reaction. If the reaction ends or is reduced by more frequent washings, that is a signal to be more vigilant in bathing your dog.
-every other week (give her a bath) -and train her know (better to start off early!)
y dont you ask your parent then they probbly know
because I dont know I have had no dogz in my whole life except my older brother who acts like a dog and eats like a pig lol!!!
well it depends on the type of dog. if shes an inside dog she doesnt have to have a bath very often but you should brush her. outside dog…every couple weeks. my dog is inside and outside but for some reason he hrdly ever gets dirty. (and hes pure white!) we brush though cause his hair is long.
http://www.squidoo.com/how-to-take-care-of-a-dog try this site I thas a lot of info on that.
First…bath her as little as possible…if she’s not obviously dirty, or she doesn’t smell doggie…then she’s clean. You can cause changes in the PH of her skin by over bathing.
Second…absolutely start teaching her tricks…it “opens” the channels for learning other things…it strengthens the bond between you…it stimulates her mind, and “gives her a job”…so to speak…
Just keep lessons short…10 to 15 minutes 3 or 4 times a day…LOTS of praise, or even a food reward quickens the learning process…
Congrats on your new puppy!!

I eat poodles for breakfast , at least you’ll have half of a dog left. :]
if she tends to get dirty a lot, then give her a bath when she needs it and about every other week. I’ve found its easier to give the dog a bath at night, then if you have like advantage (the flea killing medicine) then you’d put her in a kennel to bed or something and it’ll be dry in the morning.
as for teaching her tricks, I’d wait a while until she is more comfortable in your home, just like little children getting more comfortable in school as time goes on. that is what I did with my jack russell terrier, we got her at 3 months and waited around 1 month for her to settle with her new environment.
if you need any more help feel free to funmail me =)
