my dog (sugar)

how long after a dog has puppys does she go in heat again

Answer #1

She should come into heat 6 - 8 months from the last one. Having a litter does not really change there heat cycle. It may by a month or two.

Answer #2

Typically a female will come into heat every 6-9 months. If she breeds and takes to the breeding (becomes pregnant), the gestation period (how long she is pregnant) is 59-63 days, or 9 weeks. After whelping (giving birth), the pups should stay with mom for AT LEAST 8 weeks, to be properly weaned and learn good animal behaviors from mom and littermates. You’re up to 4 months by the time the pups are ready to go, so another 2-5 months and it starts all over. It all depends on the breed, and individual dog. Smaller breeds (ie chihuahua, dachshund, yorkie) usually have heats more often, sometimes as many as 4 a year, 2 being the norm. Larger breeds (ie mastiff, great dane) have fewer heats, less often. Sometimes 2, usually 1 a year.

Hope this helps, and yes I breed. Miniature Dachshunds
