My dog is annoying!

Ok my dog is a very sweet dog but the problem is that he barks all the time because we live in an apartment…I dont want to get him a shock collar because hes a little dog and they are dangerous anyways and I pretty much have tried everything from squirting water at him to yelling shut up!! Lol do you have any suggestions?

Answer #1

just get him used to people and at least meet 3 new people everyday and eventually when he sees people he thinks there gonna pet him and he wont bark in fear of chasing them away

Answer #2

I know what you mean!! how big is your dog?? because mine is a small one that doesnt grow, and theyr called alarm dogs! therefore, barking 24/7

I heard something like you can put some coins in a jar and shake it when the dog bothers you and it works sometimes! try it!

Answer #3

ok im home all day because im homeschooled so hes out all day and I play with him a lot!! and he gets a lot of exercise!!! I play chase with him and he runs like 20 mph!!! lol!

Answer #4

Ditto to amblessed on “Enough”…I have a barker, and found two things that help with barking…Understanding that it’s a natural thing to warn the pack with barks…so I allow two or three barks, and then I say “ENOUGH”…I might have to poke him in the neck to get his attention…not hard, but firmly…ENOUGH!!! …and send him away from the window or door.

Another is to teach them to bark on command…sounds strange, but for a dog, it makes some sort of sense…it also makes the “Enough” command more believeable to the animal…

Answer #5

Use the word “Enough” or “Stop” and the puppy should immediately be praised when he or she sits or stands quietly beside you - last resort: a squirt bottle filled with tap water can also be used to stop the puppy from barking, Again, the word “Enough” or “Stop” should be used prior to the water bottle, and the puppy should immediately be praised when he or she sits or stands quietly beside you.

Answer #6

you need to give him attention and take him to a vet…ask them wats up. mayb try walkin him more often…

Answer #7

a) He’s not barking because you live in an apartment. He’s barking AND you live in an apartment. Plenty of dogs live in apartments and do not bark. b) Yelling at a dog is no more or less effective than whispering to a dog. They have excellent hearing, and so increasing the volume of your command is not going to do anything put startle it. The key is dominance, not force. c) You only list ways you have been punishing your dog and nothing about how you’ve tried to correct the cause of the behavior. How much exercise does your dog receive? How often is it left alone? What stimulation is it given when you are in/out of the apartment? Is the dog attempting to play when it barks or is it staring at the wall?

Answer #8

hes a maltese but hes 11 pounds!! which is really big for them and he is neutered

Answer #9

What breed of dog is he. Also, is he neutered?
