My cat has started to pee on couch

My son just left to go to Marine boot camp and he was very close to the cat. Could this be the reason he is peeing on the couch, same spot everytime. He has never done this?

Answer #1

Very well could be. My Father and one of my cats have a hate/hate relationship.. Whenever he comes to visit my cat urinates on something of his.. coat..shoes..ect.. Only him, never for someone else. Also, my dog used to get really upset when I would leave him home for more than an hour alone. Not anymore, but he used to pee on my bed if I would leave for too long. The change might be really upsetting the cat. I would try to keep the cat off the couch. My animals are not permitted on the living room or bedroom furniture, they are just trained that way. When my cats were younger I would spray them lightly with a water bottle when they where somewhere I wanted to to avoid. Then clean the cushion as best as possible.Animals will sometimes keep using the same spot if they can smell their urine. Good Luck.

if it is a he then he is not peeing he is spraying that is him marking that it is his home and no one eles and if it is a she I dont know xx

Answer #3

did by any chance your son sit on or near that spot, cats like to mark there territory just like dogs, but cats reasons are more explanitory such as trying to protect the owners/close ones area of familarity (trys to protect its owners space), if you would like this to stop, the first thing you can do is clean the couch thourouly then the cat may not smell or remember your son being there if that doesnt work get the couch thrown away, I hope this helps you

Answer #4

Yes…it could be because your son has left. Cats don’t like changes. However, the first thing I’d do, is get him checked for a UTI. Cats are prone to urinary infections…and that too, cause inappropriate urination…If he checks out ok, then the probability is that he’s working thru a big change in his life.
