Locked out of Windows 2000

A friend gave me an old computer and she can’t remember the username or password so I can get passed the Log On screen. How can I get into the computer??? I don’t have the disk so wiping it clean isn’t an option.

Answer #1

Sorry to hear that, I usually have a lot of confusion about the differences between the Windows password and the Network password.  I used Windows Password Unlocker to reset Windows 2000/2003 password. Easy and powerful tools, you can reset your administrator password Within 5 minutes.

Try this: when booting the PC, press F8 just as the BIOS boot ends and before the Windows boot begins. If this works - I’m not sure of Win2K - you should see a DOS type menu. Boot into safe mode, and yoiu may be able to change the password. If this does not work, search for Hiren’s Boot CD on the web. it has tools in it to break Windows passwords. Good luck! Happy Easter!

Answer #3

If it’s set up with passwords, there’s usually a general account that doesn’t require logging in…if you hit cancel on the login popup, it should just open the general account.
