When someone leaves furniture on their lawn for garbage pickup, can we take it?

Someone left a beautiful window pane that I want to use for art, but I was unsure if we can.

Answer #1

yeah..i mean they through it out

Answer #2

I know that people often do. When I put furniture out to be disposed of usually someone driving by decides they can use it and loads it up.

Answer #3

Yes, generally if something is put by the side of the road as garbage you can pick it up. We’ve done it several times. If your unsure, it never hurts to knock on the persons door and ask their permission.

Answer #4

I do not know I have had people pick up things from my trash, but I think I would ask the owner before I did. I guess that is just Texas, but I do not like getting shot at.

Answer #5

Definitely! And props to you for taking it! Too much usable stuff gets sent to landfills. eople shouldn’t just throw stuff out, they should give all usable stuff they don’t want away. Sites like Freecycle and Kijiji are great for this.

Answer #6

Ooops, I lost my “P” in “people”.

Answer #7

I like taking all I can to goodwill, but I would be careful digging through people trash.

Answer #8

I have swiped stuff from the curb often. Got my friend a decent recliner that way. Still not sure why it was on the curb for 3 days :P.

Answer #9

Here, its an accpeted practice. : )

Answer #10

lol i would just pick it up at night.

Answer #11

It depends on where in the lawn. Usually, the reason for people “leaving” their furniture in the lawn is because its an outdoor furniture or lawn furniture. But if you find a rusty or old chair or table very near the road, chances are it is disposed off as garbage. Even then, if you want to pick it up, better ask the owner first. :D
